In 2009, California passed the “California Protection of Marriage Amendment,” or “Prop 8.” Proposition 8 bravely protected the institution of traditional marriage by making sure that gay people could not participate in it.
I loved Proposition 8, but felt it did not go far enough. So fresh from the office of our legal counsel, I present the 2010 California Protection of Marriage Act.
SECTION 1. Title. This act shall be known as the “2010 California Marriage Protection Act.”
SECTION 2. Section 7.6 is added to Article I of the California Constitution, to read:
No party to any marriage shall be restored to the state of an unmarried person during the lifetime of the other party unless the marriage is void or voidable, as set forth in Part 2 of Division 6 of the Family Code.
We will be filing the papers to get it on the ballot within the week.

My wife is homeschooling our five children, and she’s doing a terrific job at it even though she is one grade lower than my eldest daughter and hasn’t managed to pass her GED yet. I strongly suggest that in order to support the sanctity of marriage by increasing the number of marriages, we do the following:
- force all men to get married to a woman of their choosing, with elder men getting first dibs
- do not allow divorce except in special extenuating circumstances (if the wives of strong, Christian men gain too much weight, for instance)
That would increase the marriage rate to almost 100% and the divorce rate to almost 0% – which makes your argument COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS.

It’s OK to be strong and healthy for a man, but for a woman that tends to make them look dumpy and often mannish, so I would say obesity is only a moral crime when it’s with a woman. To divorce based upon looks or flatulance – or a wife letting herself go and divorcing her b’cos of it is vanity. And vanity is a sin. I know the Bible Joe. Granted a wife, AS WELL AS a husband, should stay upkept and nice for their spouse. But weight gain, a disfigurement, whatever should have grounds for divorce. A wife or husband getting beat or if one is a christian and the other is not is only grounds for divorce. Based on that the Bible says we should not be unevenly yoked in religions, which can cause strife later on in a marriage if you ignore that rule. God gives warnings in the Bible, and whether or not you decided to take them for what they are is up to you. It’s called free will.
You can tell me and Ralph here what’s in the Bible, but i have yet to see you show us scripture to back up your case. I am a Christian, a strong Christian at that. I know that God is a just God, as well as a loving God, and that i am saved by grace.
But you have not given any proof to back up your argument. And that propaganda you speak of us what helps people have a drive towards success. Success is not a sin if you do not create it as an idol. Yes, lighter complexions are closer to Jesus. Those showing him with long hair are probably painted by hippies. Jesus had short – almost bald – reddish blond hair, blue eyes, and was probably about 300 lbs and 6′2″, maybe with a manly goatee.
As for the poor: most of them are “downtrodden” because they are just too lazy to work. Jesus rewards those who make lots of money with an extra special seat at the Welcome Table–it’s clear that Jerry Falwell probably has his own zip code in Heaven. I both like and do not like this idea. I like it because if people knew that when they took the Marriage Vows they may think more seriously about what they are getting into. People should be more serious about marriage! However I do believe some people should not be married. For example, if one is being abused or is being cheated on. I have always considered infidelity the Worst form of spousal abuse because you risk the persons health with nasty diseases you got from your Mistress/Mister. You already know they will be emotionally injured. So cheating is abuse. In that case- one should be able to divorce. We live in a state obsessed with instant gratification. We want everything quick and with no effort. Including Marriage. Put some effort in it! I would think the Law helps stop women or men marrying for personal gain. For example; Money,gifts or Green Cards.

SECTION 1. Title. This act shall be known as the “2010 California Marriage Protection Act.”
SECTION 2. Section 7.6 is added to Article I of the California Constitution to read: “No party to any marriage shall be restored to the state of an unmarried person during the lifetime of the other party unless the marriage is void or voidable, as set forth in Part 2 of Division 6 of the Family Code.

2210. A marriage is voidable and may be adjudged a nullity if any
of the following conditions existed at the time of the marriage:
(a) The party who commences the proceeding or on whose behalf the
proceeding is commenced was without the capability of consenting to
the marriage as provided in Section 301 or 302, unless, after
attaining the age of consent, the party for any time freely cohabited
with the other as husband and wife.
(b) The husband or wife of either party was living and the
marriage with that husband or wife was then in force and that husband
or wife (1) was absent and not known to the party commencing the
proceeding to be living for a period of five successive years
immediately preceding the subsequent marriage for which the judgment
of nullity is sought or (2) was generally reputed or believed by the
party commencing the proceeding to be dead at the time the subsequent
marriage was contracted.
(c) Either party was of unsound mind, unless the party of unsound
mind, after coming to reason, freely cohabited with the other as
husband and wife.
(d) The consent of either party was obtained by fraud, unless the
party whose consent was obtained by fraud afterwards, with full
knowledge of the facts constituting the fraud, freely cohabited with
the other as husband or wife.
(e) The consent of either party was obtained by force, unless the
party whose consent was obtained by force afterwards freely cohabited
with the other as husband or wife.
(f) Either party was, at the time of marriage, physically
incapable of entering into the marriage state, and that incapacity
continues, and appears to be incurable.
2211. A proceeding to obtain a judgment of nullity of marriage, for
causes set forth in Section 2210, must be commenced within the
periods and by the parties, as follows:
(a) For causes mentioned in subdivision (a) of Section 2210, by
any of the following:
(1) The party to the marriage who was married under the age of
legal consent, within four years after arriving at the age of
consent.
(2) A parent, guardian, conservator, or other person having charge
of the underaged male or female, at any time before the married
minor has arrived at the age of legal consent.
(b) For causes mentioned in subdivision (b) of Section 2210, by
either of the following:
(1) Either party during the life of the other.
(2) The former husband or wife.
(c) For causes mentioned in subdivision (c) of Section 2210, by
the party injured, or by a relative or conservator of the party of
unsound mind, at any time before the death of either party.
(d) For causes mentioned in subdivision (d) of Section 2210, by
the party whose consent was obtained by fraud, within four years

2212. (a) The effect of a judgment of nullity of marriage is to
restore the parties to the status of unmarried persons.

This legislation should include a provision requiring that people who do not agree to get married will be ground up and used for hamburger meat. In this recession, some people have a hard time being able to afford to buy the amount of meat they’ve grown used to in their diets, and this will help bring the price down. It’s high time the industry got back to using quality natural ingredients without all the hormones they pump the cows full of. Besides, what a good way to put the new bigger-government health care plan to the test?

God granted divorce because of abuse and adultery. Abuse can be verbal as well as physical, I know, because I’ve been there. Both abuse and adultery of the husband, yes even other children to another woman. I have been persecuted by the church for it, by people for it. I’ve been told I had to go back to him. You can’t go back to that kind of life. It kills you. What good are you to your children when you are a living dead?
You are nothing. Well Jesus Christ has redeemed me from the curse of the law. He has taken all my sin and shortcomings, and I am alive today because of HIM. He saved me when I died to myself.
