Far right blog “Free Republic” and far left blog “Democratic Underground” have both begun debating the merits of the initiative today. Each site has its share of detractors and supporters, demonstrating that this is far from a partisan issue. Family values are important to everyone.
trumandogz @ FreeRepublic.com writes:
Great idea and a perfect way to protect marriage.
While notesdev @ DemocraticUnderground.com adds:
It would sure make people think long and hard before making what should be a lifelong commitment. Easy divorce sure didn’t help children any.
So we have synchronicity! An idea that cuts across ideological backgrounds and appeals to liberals and conservatives alike. Unfortunately, while we did garner support, there were also cynics in the crowd, who do not share our vision for a more values-based California.
DebbieCDC @ DemocraticUnderground.com writes:
Apparently some whackjob(s) in CA have gathered enough signatures to get this on the November ballot*
It’s a ballot initiative. Some crackpot(s) think that even IF this gets approved by a majority of voters, it will survive a court challenge. It seems they may have gotten enough valid signatures to get it on the ballot. The wackos are crawling out of the woodwork.
And in a particularly hurtful comment, The Unknown Republican @ FreeRepublic.com writes:
Although I support the concept in principle, I don’t believe this is a serious push by a conservative group or Christian organization. It seems to me that this is more likely a stunt by bitter leftwing homosexuals…an answer of sorts to Prop. 8. These people think they can show that the real motivation behind Prop. 8 wasn’t the protection of marriage but rather the hatred of gays. At least that seems to be their theory of operation on this…
I’d like to assure “The Unknown Republican” that nothing could be further from the truth. I know that the real motivation of the people who supported Prop 8 was to protect traditional marriages, which is why I’m sure their support for protecting traditional marriage will not change — even if this time it’s their own rights that are being curtailed.

I completely agree with this, as should every God-fearing Palin-loving conservative! NO DIVORCE FOR HOMOSEXUALS!
(wait…no divorce for *anyone?*…)
THIS IS CLEARLY A CYNICAL ATTEMPT BY HOMOSEXUALS TO FURTHER THEIR AGENDA…AND RAPE MY CHILDREN.
Why was the image of the boxing donkey and elephant on this page stolen from Istockphoto. The watermark on the comp image used is plain to see. I realize that this may seem trivial and unrelated to the discussion at hand but it speaks volumes about the people in charge of this organization. Everything about this web site was given approval by someone in charge before it went live. This is an ethics issue concerning an organization that is making ethical decisions for every one of us.
Matthew,
You are completely correct. We got this photo from a site reporting it as free. We’ve purchased it from iStockphoto and uploaded the new image. This was our mistake, but we’ve corrected it and have the paid image uploaded. now.
Thank you for pointing it out.
Hahaha … love the website! Kudos. Just a little clarification, though: Democratic Underground is hardly a “far left” blog. Far from it, really. Sure, there are a few truly progressive contributors, but most are DLC enablers and are clearly part of the problem, than the solution.
This has been a long time coming.
I truely support.
By the way we need a good acronym for us, fully & eternally first time heterosexually (might add, non-self entertaining) procreating married folks. Nothing solidifies a movement like a good acronym.
A
Did someone say acronym?
Christians Upholding Natural Togetherness
(huh, hmmmm … Things could get hairy if that was abbreviated)
Families Experiencing Legal Traditional Christian Happiness
(no, no … a bit sloppy, and just doesn’t seem like it’s for everyone)
Sincere Christians Rescuing Our Traditional Unity of Marriage
(This may be a winner! Our tea-bagging friends should approve)
International Network of Christians Enriching Society Together.
I think that if they just switched the price of a divorce to the price it would take to get and stay married, people would stop and think a little bit harder about “Is this really the one I want to spend eternity with?” Voila less marriages, less divorces!
i wish i was a “bitter leftwing homosexual.” they sound like a fun bunch! oh well, 2 out of 3 isn’t bad
You better sex some ladies before Jesus burns your pee-pee off in hell!
If one of those two is the second or third one, then GTFO. Praise Jesus.
What are you talking about!? Obviously only ONE of those things is acceptable for any God-fearing Christian American!!!
Obviously the truth hurts, since you can’t leave a posting up that reveals your invidious lying agenda. Once again, this is a phony site put up by militant sodomites attempting to harvest ip addresses, email addresses & other information from unwary, normal conservative posters.
You are free to disagree with people’s opinions in the comments. However, you are not free to call people profane names or threaten violence.
Another violation like that and you will be banned.
Next Stop: Prison for Divorcers!
After that: Jailtime for Masturbators!
I saw the Militant Sodomites the other night at the Comet Tavern here in Seattle; KILLER show!
I WAS wondering why all the normal, unwary conservatives were milling around.
say let’s get on board and pass this initiative. If anything, it doesn’t go far enough. People couldn’t divorce in the Middle Ages when the Catholic Church was the only game in town. It was equivalent to heresy. So let’s include the Medieval punishment for heresy as the penalty for attempting divorce. Try to divorce and get burned at the stake. In fact, let’s legislate against heresy. Then we can revive the Office of the Holy Inquisition to take on these heretic sects like the fundies. As Cardinal Torquemada would say,
Religious tolerance is vastly overated.
This blog is far left in my book. Sorry try harder asshole.
Uh, NOT true! My spiritual guide, Pastor Deacon Fred told me so!

Defend marriage or burn in HE!! HEATHEN!!

Wow, busted. You are correct rent (interesting moniker. Favorite musical? You know what they say about men who like musicals!), obviously NOTHING escapes the purview of your bear-trap-like intellect, does it?
