Perhaps the answer is to marry a good Catholic man. Catholics can’t get divorced, so it stands to reason that Catholic men are not abusive.

It is not true that Catholic’s can not get a divorce. You can under certain circumstances. You would need to ask a Priest what they are. Besides don’t think that all Catholic men are wonderful, they are human with a free will just like everyone else. I believe that we should be faithful and stay together till death do us part, but there are things that are beyond our control. There just needs to be strick guidelines that condone divorce. I don’t think irreconcilable differences is justifiable.

I disagree I’m married to a chtholic man and he is abusive. He usses the fact that he is a good catholic to justify it. So there is no cure. Just write in that if the abuse is substantiated than divorce can be granted. Cheating go to counseling and find out the underlining reason to solve the problem.
Actually you can NOT divorce if you are a Catholic. You can get an annulment which states that the marriage never occurred after counseling and mediation. Until recently, by having an annulment also meant that all children born of the marriage were now considered bastards, but the church has thankfully changed their stance on that

These people are not really against divorce. They want to show the hypocrisy that the Yes on 8 campaign used.. They said that they were not against gay people, they just wanted to protect marriage. They said that preserving marriage to its traditional and historical definition was more important than equality. If that is true then why is divorce okay?
Also on the issue of religious freedom, for every quote you can take from the bible against gay marriage you could probably find several more that condemn divorce. Traditionally marriage was forever and could not so easily end in divorce. Obviously this was a tradition that had to end because it forced people to be trapped in certain situations. In the case of divorce, freedom ruled out over tradition. California’s ban on gay marriage is discrimination. Marrying the same sex may go against tradition, but when people are denied equal protections sometimes it calls for new traditions.
Anyway, this is satire saying that if you oppose gay people having equal rights because you believe that tradition is more important than equality/freedom… you should have no trouble opposing divorce. It obviously doesn’t sound fair to deny people the right to divorce, but denying a group of people the right to marriage isn’t exactly fair either.

We see here that adultery could end a marriage. Because according to God’s law it resulted in death and there is little question that death ended a marriage.

I come from a country where divorce is illegal and personally, I don’t think it’s such a bad thing. Couples tend to fix or cope with thier issues without affecting the children and they in return have a sense of security. When you know you are stuck with someone for a long haul, wouldn’t you be more selective? I feel it is time we break the chain of reaction….. Our children will end up in divorce because that is the life that they know….and with it are financial hardship, loneliness, feelings of abandonment, instablility, insecurity, freedome to be selfish and so on. Is this how we want our children to end up in?

I come from a country that doesn’t honor divorce too, and ppl are all the more wiser about their views on marriage. We know that it’s no trial and error so taking the dive is no easy decision to make. Thankfully, we are all God-fearing individuals over there so we have much less psychos to worry about.

Most divorces today are NOT due to adultery. Also adultery does not dissolve the ONE FLESH God created through marriage, only death does (Rom. 7:2-3, I Cor. 7:39), hence the prohibition to marry again AFTER a divorce (why Jesus calls it adultery to remarry or to marry a divorced person).

Let’s try and focus here. When our forefathers and foremothers came to America, many of them were dissenters, free thinkers and the persecuted for their beliefs. America promised them the right to believe what they want. America did not promise them that they could control what anyone thought. This noble view that government should not take sides on matters of faith was later made into the law by the 1st Amendement to the Constitution. People were promised life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness in the Declaration of Independence. In the present conflict, we have a group that wants government to control how other people should live but it was not done fairly. A majority took away rights from a protected minority. Once the injustice was done, the only fair way out is to apply the same rules to everyone. This avoids the stink of favoritism where people get treated differently because of their personal or religious beliefs. Nay, it stinks worse that that. People who do not believe as the majority want them to think or believe get trashed.The long and the short of it is: Either Prop 8 was a mistake or, failing that admission, the proposed ban on divorce rights a wrong so that everyone suffers equally from government interference in religious and/or private matters. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck and looks like a duck, maybe, just maybe it IS a duck. The proposed divorce ban deserves a fair hearing. That is my story and I’m sticking to it.

The divorce rate in America among fundamentalist Christians is double that of Athiest. The reaon for this is that these so-called “CHRISTIAN COUNCELORS” do not follow God’s Law. If they were doing their job, they would put the fear of God into the abusive husband so that he would think twice before being a bully again. They just take the easy way out every time because they are not qualified therapists and only deal with the spiritual aspect of marriage. Both parties will put in the effort if divorce is not an option.

All for different reasons. One of them was left by his wife, the other one was cheated on, I was beat by my EX husband, my sister was beat by her EX husband, and my mom left my dad. So what, I’m still loved by GOD and my church, I don’t what bible you guys are reading but you out of your minds if you think this will save marriage. I do know that gay marriage referendums attacked gay marriage because it is seen as a threat to traditional marriage – because it is a sin that festers and overtakes society. The hubub over the amendment is a lot like this site, an attempt to point out the ridiculousness of the original amendment. No one seriously thinks all marriages in Texas will suddenly be void. I have been writing letters to the editor in the S.F. Chronicle for years saying that if people really wanted to protect marriage, like those who voted for the Knight Initiative, then we should ban divorce. The initiatives that have passed are short-sighted and have not gone far enough. Ban divorce! Where can I sign on?
The Bible also tells us to stone fornicators to death, to basically keep kosher, and dozens of other rules that Christians conveniently ignore, even the fundamentalists. Here is the solution to the whole gay marriage issue. First the United states government needs to not issue marriage licenses and only give civil unions. This way it is fair to all who want to have the same rights. All will be equal, because now we have taken marriage and religion out of the equation. Now if you feel you want to get married you still need the civil union for the U.S. but you also can go to YOUR CHURCH and get married there. If YOUR CHURCH does not recognize gay marriage then great thats YOUR CHURCH. So if gays can not get married then follow your own religious rules and make it law to never get divorced. I think if divorce wasn’t so easily granted then people would not be so quick to marry. People would actually spend time getting to know each other and not get married until they were certain that was the person they were going to spend the rest of their life with. Many people enter into marriage thinking “oh well if it doesn’t work out we will just get divorced”. But if it wasn’t that simple then they wouldn’t jump into marriage so quickly.
Those same people were trying to gain forgiveness with God for having premarital sex and then they got married- NOT out of love, or wanted commitment-FOR SEX.
The first two times I got married I thought, “I’m never getting divorced.” Then a judge sentenced me to ten years hard labor. Jenny Sanford now claims that Gay marriage wrecked her family. She may be onto something, but divorce is never right.
All this god stuff is making me ill. Just let it go people. There are gay people and they deserve to be equal in every way. So called god or no god. If the masses don’t give equal rights to everyone what is to stop the tide from turning and all you god-dy people be on the chopping block next. Humanity needs to grow and evolve not be shackled to some books written before we were enlightened by education and scientific discovery. I mean if we went by those books the world would still be flat and we could burn people alive and stone people to death. One other thing; what did the catholic church do during world war 2 to help the holistic victims? Do you think those people in the black and white robes just sat around with their funny hats and entertained themselves by raping children?

I don’t know if I would consider the Holocaust “holistic”… but that’s just me.
They certainly did not just sit around raping small children.
They also did a nice deal with Mussolini. In return for tacid approval of the Holocaust, the Roman Catholic Church was given a vast sum of money and 109 acres in Rome to create the Vatican. The Pope was allowed a small army, police force, post office and rail station. To sweeten the deal, the pope was also given a weekend getaway called Castel Gandolfo.
A Concordat was signed which made the Catholic faith the state religion, religious education was made compulsory in both primary and secondary schools and, most importantly, the Church was given full control of marriage – so NO DIVORCE allowed.
Think about it. You get your own little country, a rival religion gets wiped out and you get diplomatic immunity so you can never ever get prosecuted for any crimes. It’s a no brainer. No wonder the Catholic Church supported the Fascists.

Yes, many in the PROFESSING church appear as hypocrits when they come again Gay marriage saying it is not in line with Tradional marriage……….it is a threat to it. The reality is that God created marriage—-one man/one woman FOR LIFE. ANY relationship outside this “original” marriage is sin. To “re” marry another after divorcing your original spouse is to enter into an adulterous relationship—-a marriage NOT joined as One flesh by God—an illicit union. What the state says is “legal” does not matter to God, whether it be an adulerous “marriage” or a homosexual “marriage”. Neither are viewed by God, according to HIS Word to us, as One flesh legitimate unions.
Because many in the “church” have redefined marriage in order to accept/tolerate adultery(remarriage after divorce), in opposition to God’s Word, it then is just not believeable use God’s Word to come against another form of forbidden marriage: homosexual marriage. For those who say remarriage is permitted due to extra-marital adultery, because a remarriage dissolves the original one, etc, realize this: the very earliest writings by the church show the early church did NOT believe the scriptures taught this. They believed, though one partner committed adultery (or was even in an ogoing adulterous relationship), it STILL was adultery for the “innocent” one to move on and marry another. Rom. 7:2-3, I Cor. 7:39 testify that adultery does NOT dissolve the original marriage in the sight of God—-as does the example of Herod/Herodias and David/Michal………..I truly hope that more and more people’s eyes would be opened on the destruction of family WITHIN the church and deal with it’s own sins before trying to correct the sins of those OUTSIDE the church (I Cor. 5). well said …remarriage is not permitted until death…seems if churches taught this divorce among belivers would be non existant..also i am appauled at the way churches allow remarried couple to join the church!yes the doors are open to all to come and hear the truth..but not as members..they are living in sin that cl4esrly goes against his commandments laid out for us to follow..repentance has to happen..which means to come out of an ungodly marriage…reconcile with your frost and only spouse or remain single and live in purity…it can be done..also in the old testament God called his people who took wives that were non hebrew to get rid of those wives and children and repent…its the same today… tough yes…do able absolutely if we are to honor God with our bodies…reconciliation ids always the will of our creator..satan attacks marriage yet the church refuses to teach the truth about remmariage..might lose too much money and members… instead of fearing the lord they fear man…the end of time says we will be lovers of self….just look around we want who and wahat we want..instead of what God gave us
And people wonder why there is divorce with all these stark-raving mad lunatics around drilling it into people’s heads that they cant divorce unless the other person DROPS DEAD. Isn’t that in itself implying you should kill your spouse when youre done or was that just a black widow’s perspective being twisted into convient religious beliefs?
