Cafe Press Store
Sorry for the poor presentation. I’ll fix it soon. But if you want a wider variety of shirts, shorts, thongs and bumper-stickers, check out our Cafe Press Store.

You guys need to get bigger shirts. I would buy a few if you went up to 6X. Also you should offer different colors. I would buy black shirts.
While we’re quibbling over grammar, shouldn’t it have been “til death *does* us part. Because “till death do..” is so wrong.
Peggy, the correct is “till death DO us part” because of the subjunctive. Till projects a future and therefore requires the subjunctive. Another example of the subjunctive in English is when you say “If I WERE you” instead of “was”.
Yet another example of why I so admire those who learn English as a second language.
Wow. Knowledge of subjuctive = English is his second language? Try middle school. At least that’s where I had my grammar classes.
Grammarphiles are so sexy…dative case, baby! Harder!
Okay, subjunctive or no subjunctive, you say “till death do us part” at the alter, not “does us part.” Peggy has obviously never been married, attended a wedding, or received a GED. Maybe you should stop being a forum troll and go find a husband.
Oh, jumpy people, I do believe Peggy meant that because of silly or elegant (depending upon your appreciation of the quirks of the English language) grammatical constructions such as the subjunctive tense, English is a very hard language to learn. Therefore, English learners deserve our appreciation all the more. I don’t think she was implying that Jeremy is learning English as a second language, or that is he were, that it would somehow be insulting to reference that. More power to people who learn multiple languages, especially convoluted ones like English, when most Americans only speak one language!
Subjunctive is a mood, not a tense.
Actually it has nothing to do with the subjunctive. It’s inverted syntax. The “do” goes with the “we,” not with the “Does.” — We do part. Til death do we part — We do part only in death. See?
Er, the “do” goes with the “we” not with the “DEATH”, sorry.
I’m a couple years too late, but I believe what Peggy meant when she said that she admired those that learned English as a second language was that because of the complexities of the English language (like the subjunctive) that it was a feat for anyone to learn English at all…
Not that the commenter she was responding to must obviously be ESL…
How about “until death parts us”, to fit modern English word order.
Maybe the archaic grammar of wedding vows is what is causing so many divorces. People just don’t know what they’re getting into!
No. Must be something else.
Actually, I believe poor grammar may be behind many more of the world’s woes than many people think. After all, we’ve been in so many wars with non-English speaking people. Coincidence? I think not.
How about till dead does its part….
or is it “it’s” hummmmm
The trouble with Mormon marriages is that death does not free you from the bitch….
JK
I just said bitch for effect, we actually have a rare temple divorce so she could remarry a better Mormon man…. whom is currently in prison…. hummmmm upgrade…. NOT!
“’til death do WE part.” sounds grammatically more correct to me.
Please oh please get ladies’ T-shirts!!! I really want one, but don’t like guy-T’s.
Ladies shirts are much harder to size correctly. They complicate the ordering process and have a lot more returns because they don’t fit right.
We do have a Cafe Press store though, with nicer shirts that cost more.
Thanks for the heads up about Cafe Press, however, could you post a link – I typed in ‘Chains of Love” and I’m getting some weird stuff…Thanks again!
I want to support your cause!! How much of the money do you actually get from the shirts at cafepress? Or is it better to buy directly from here? I know that a lot of websites take out a hefty percentage of the sales simply for the priveledge of selling something on their site. I’ll definitely order one or two, but can’t until next payday (thanks to Black Friday- ha). Let me know which site would be better to order from please.
Ah well. I would buy a shirt too if you had them in women’s sizes. I don’t believe in men’s “one size fits all,” I would like something that I would *wear.*
Get an XL and wear it with a belt. You’ll look fabulous.
what is the link for the cafe press shirts?? i prefer something smaller also. even a guys small is swimming on me
with the shirts, does the website on the shirt really get printed on the shirt?
I’ve bought lots of different shirts at Cafe Press, and they’re fantastic. You’ll get exactly what you order.
http://www.cafepress.com/RescueMarriage is the link. Or you could probably just go to the cafepress website and search Rescue Marriage.
What are the T-shirts made of? Need this info for sizing purposes.
I love it !!!!
We Californians don’t believe in gay marriage, but hell lets legalize dope?
Will the transplanted Californians please get the hell out of my state already.
Thankfully, when it’s all said and done, banning gay marriage will be deemed unconstitutional.
I’m not a native Californian..actually from the conservative state of GA, but I completely support same-sex marriage.
I think the statement you’re making is awesome! If you sold buttons I would buy a bunch, pin one on my backpack, and pass out the extras around campus. Please send me the link to a website from which I can order girl t-shirts!
They do have buttons! http://www.cafepress.com/RescueMarriage
Peggy Sue– why all the scrutiny?? Obviously you have never said vows. I think the cause of this shirt is great. People get married and when the times get tough they just give up. The truth is that it is much easier to quit then to fight for something so if they were not able to quit then maybe people would think about what they are actually doing when they get married. People have no morals and values and take marriage for granted. It seems as if most people do it just to have something to do. I really hope someone speaking up on the situation called divorce that has rocketed out of control helps. Laws have made it too easy to get married and divorced. HOpe you are very successful and if i lived in California I would sign you petition for sure.
I would heartily support your cause and buy t-shirt(s)if: I knew what they were made of and if it didn’t cost an additional $10.00+ to ship to Missouri.
I fully support this notion and will have a post on my blog tomorrow talking about it. Be sure and check it out.
How can I help!? I’d collect signatures down in San Diego!! (although I suspect most people wouldn’t understand the irony).
I’ll collect signatures too! I live in SF.
I signed a petition to ban divorce and all I got was this stupid t-shirt.
Could you add a wolf to the t-shirt. Maybe one howling at the moon. Or better yet, add two wolves.
HA!!! your comment had me literally laugh out loud. To funny.
You definately need to offer larger size t-shirts.
I wonder if this ban on divorce passed and the State of California did not allow divorce, would the murder rate go up?
Of course not! Murder is ILLEGAL!!!!!
Just like gay marriage.
So true. None of us want to break the law. There is a sister movement in support of the rescue marriage movement (dub dub dub stay married spousal disposal) outlining spouse disposal methods – when they expire of course.
Every single page contains excellent GREEN ways to use expired spouses. (Some show how to recognize impending expiration; and as an added bonus, you’ll find suggestions on accelerating expiration – for environmental purposes of course.)
If Obama’s death panels will dispatch misbehaving spouses, then all can live up to the contract without breaking any oath. Problem Solved.
Y’know, John, since Prop 8 passed I had been thinking that we really should pass a law to outlaw adultery and institute the traditional, and Biblical, punishement of stoning. Given the propensity of religious leaders to have difficulty in this area, I think this would both support increased fidelity in marriage and keep families together. I used to practice law and could draft something up if you want… By the way, where can I sign your petition in the Sacramento area?
I second that! Why should we be able to pick & choose which parts of the Bible to follow. Futhermore, if the whole issue is religion and there is supposed to be a separation of church & state, then marriage itself should not legally be recognized!
Are you kidding me? Does anyone really understand the meaning behind this t-shirt?
This is not about divorce; this is a spoof on the banning of gay marriage.
Someone said it earlier, not many people will connect the irony.
Yeah, I tried to no avail to explain this to one of my friends who lives in CA. But instead, she just came back with “people have the right to get a divorce”… *sigh* She didn’t listen to me AT ALL.
I just stumbled across this site today. My mother is a lesbian and I fully support gay marriage. How do I sign online?
Yes, Rick, we all understand what this initiative is really about: civil rights for everyone, the right to create a family, even if you aren’t heterosexual. To put it in simple words of one syllable, right wing Bible-thumpers have no right to push their “values” onto the rest of us. If you follow their “family-friendly” logic, then divorce should be outlawed (New Testament) and adulterers should be punished with stoning (Old Testament)–but it’s all absolutely True, isn’t it? because it’s in the Bible. Oh, and let’s bring back the 17th century laws on witch-burning, too!(Old Testament)
I noticed that both figures are trying to get rid of each other.
Love the idea of having a maternity tee that says “you’re not dead yet” on it!
I keep telling all of the women that i know:
“I don’t believe in Divorce. You must make a murder suicide pact, but darling just remember suicide is a sin…….”
Suicide is a sin you can’t ask forgiveness for, at least with murder you are still around to ask for the forgiveness. Sounds like just a murder pack to me.
If you’re planning additional designs, please consider one with “2010 California Marriage Protection Act / Safeguarding marriage from the evils of divorce” printed on it. The current “You’re not dead yet” slogan makes it look like one of those annoying hipster t-shirts. Keep up the good work.
I submitted two more designs earlier this week. Can’t wait to hear what you think!
Maybe this bill should require couples who divorce to marry someone of the same sex!!
Altar, not alter
If divorce was banned, the murder rate wouldn’t go up, but adultery would become perfectly acceptable. It would be a death blow for marital fidelity. However, if that’s what it takes to see same sex marriage come in, it’s worth it.
I wish this came in small!
Are you going to make the “divorce is a lifestyle” t-shirts?? I would LOVE LOVE LOVE one of those
Yep.
Dear Happily Married and apryl,
I suggest that you go to http://www.m-w.com and look up the words “satire” and “irony.” Also, a google search of “Jonathan Swift” and a search of “Stephen Colbert” might help, too
Love,
Justin
Jeremy is right. It’s the subjunctive, you dumbasses! “Until” takes the subjunctive in older forms and still could. I’ve used it in a number of poems and it’s written in a number of poems: “Until death take my soul”, “Til the son of God appear”, “Til the Devil dance on his grave”, “Till Caesar pass by”. It’s the subjunctive and it’s actually more correct to drop the -s/-es for third person singular. Who woulda thunk that lol?
Turns out that the drive failed for lack of signed petitions, and that there will be no further effort, but the web site continues to have t-shirts for sale, and donations are being accepted. A disappointment for me, as I devoted time and effort that could have been better spent.
Not quite the complete truth. We await final ruling from the courts to see whether further action is needed. I don’t think we have received any donations recently and the shirt funds are going into the Rescue Marriage bank account for future activities.
I would say we are in hibernation right now as we wait for the courts to do their job.
