Voters in my State of California need to pass a new law (ballot initiative) stating that, “Mormonism is not a real and true religious faith.” This law shall eliminate tax-exempt status of any LDS church and mormons will no longer be a protected-class status on the basis of religion.
Another law can state, “Only marriage between two adults of the same religious faith is valid or recognized in California.” So that young non-Mormon women (like myself) can protect ourselves from abusive, dishonest Mormon men, YES! =]

yes it will affect other people. It’s already effected people. it puts limitations on what job a christian can have. for example a christian who believes that homosexuality is a sin would be forced to resign and or aid in allowing their neighbor to sin. For example should a gay couple choose to use a christian wedding planner should they dare turn down their business they could face a lawsuit. Look at massachusessets no accomodation is being shown for christian parents who do not want their children involved in diversity training but the board of education say’s it’s mandatory. In places where gay marriage is leagal they have gay pride parades that display vulgarity. I think it is in San franscisco or something like it in which they have a gay festival that puts vulgar display’s out in the open and make it hard for women and children to avoid it because it’s location is in the business district. They want accomodation for themselves but no accomodation for us. After gay marriage comes hate crimes and hate speech laws. if you haven’t read all of the comments up above I’m in the middle of a argument with a woman who thinks it’s okay that maine wants to open up restrooms and locker rooms to transgendered students. Meaning they want some little boy that still has a penis into the girls restroom just because up in his head he thinks he is a girl. Not to mention this could become a public thing as well. Meaning that they would open up adult locker rooms to all kinds of sexual predators. In some countries pastors have been arrested because of hate speech laws. The state of canada tried to tell him that his relgion is a personal matter and belongs at home which is not the case. these people seem to think that it’s something we can turn on and off but it’s not. Despite popular belief, this is NOT a christian nation. Nor were our founding father strong believers in the christian church. Most were agnostic at BEST. So what does it matter what the bible says? We don’t follow that, we follow a constitution, one which states that all should have equal rights. Religion IS a personal matter, not a legal one, and not one which should be influencing the rights of all people, even those who don’t follow it.
Also, I’m going to assume from your answer that you have not talked to, nor know intimatly any transgender or non-gender people. Mebbe you should take off your blinders, take a look around, and talk to some of them. And like most contracts, it can be broken if both parties see that the arrangement isn’t working. Your god had nothing to do with my marriage, and he had nothing to do with my divorce either. Getting married was the worst decision I have ever made, and getting a divorce was the best. For those who feel that marriage is a sacred and religious act, more power to you. If the Religious Reich can say that “marriage is a sacred vow” then they should set an example and stand behind their moral hypocrisy and outlaw divorce completely with the same fervor as they use to persecute those who do not believe as they do.
I also like the way you bring up the fact that marriage is a contract and not a religious institution unlike what many in the Religious Reich want to make it into.
I’m still wondering why and when marriage became anything but a writ of ownership over a woman and her property as marriage had been for more then 5,000 years. It wasn’t until the 20th century that women even had any rights at all.
History has shown that the Religious Reich fought over giving women any rights at all just as the Religious Reich (namely Southern Baptists) fought to keep their slaves which they claimed was their right under God because the bible said so.
In this case the bible (both testaments) does discourage making “a vow to God” and then breaking it. It sure shows just how much their word is worth especially when they lie to their own GOD and break their word to Him/her in the company of so many others- shame, shame on these hypocrites.
I personally think this bill is a wake-up call to the Religious Reich that if they are going to turn marriage into this Holy Institution then they are also going to need to live by that institutions basic values which I feel is the message this bill is trying to set.
Maybe the national divorce rate might drop since the majority of divorce is after all based on the Religious Reich’s Fundamentalism and conservative views.

I think your 100% right in your post and so you know I am a devout Gay Roman Catholic who reads the whole Bible and such.
I too (just as my church teaches) believe that marriage is for life. You make a vow to God (which Jesus spoke about in the Gospels) and in that vow you say “Till death do us part.”
I myself am in a relationship which many don’t recognize. However we did find a Priest who secretly married us in the eye’s of God.
We have been together now for 17 years and we are still very much in love with each other. We both know that we are married, wear rings to remind us of the vows we made and understand what “TILL DEATH DO WE PART”

I think we’d have had more chance of getting them demoted for financing politics. They are expressly forbidden from doing so. There is a form you can print out to file a complaint, just search for it; you’ll find it.

you are an example of what’s wrong with christianity today. you are a watered down version. You think that what some historian say’s : That paul didn’t understand when he wrote romans and that people misinterpret sodom and gomorah that, that justifies going against what the bible say’s. Further more science does not make the bible obsolete. We have to be careful of wolves in sheeps clothing. How do you know that you can’t change if you really truely believed you could I bet you could change. You are a Christian, how are you not worried that you are not living a Godly lifestyle? Where in the bible does God say pick and chose what the bible say’s? further more I’m sure there are more non christian sexual predators then pastors that are sexual predators. Further more being a pastor puts you at a higher risk of being accused weather or not you actually did something. That’s why alot of male pastors will not council women they will refer them to femal christian councilers. Some even make sure their offices are not enclosed and someone else has to be working at the church during their office hours.

Tim what about romans especially the part where it say’s “They exchanged the truth for a lie. That is my deepest concern with certain christian denominations acceptance of homosexuality. How do they know, how do you know that you are not exchanging the truth for a lie. Why is it that just because I am not so quick to allow my mind to be changed that I am accused of spreading hate. If you want to be precise I was so goal driven and perhasp a bit bitter and self centered that I did not have my first crush until the summer of my sophmore or junior year. until I went to see a production of Meet Me In St. Louis at a local community theater I had not met one man, not a single man that I was attracted to. The performance of the actor who played the boy next door and the fact that he shook my hand and talked to me made me instantly infatuated with the young actor who stared opposite the lead role. That is why I cannot fathom how there are twelve year olds that claim to be gay when I didn’t know what I wanted until I was in high school. not long ago I overheard a young man at school saying that he knew he was Gay at age eleven to me that’s not possible. That is why I am very wary of young highschool girls that tease their friends four and five year old siblings about having boyfriends and girlfriends. No wonder we have young people making such a bold decision because people push them towards love,at an age when they haven’t even begun to understand the meaning of the word and the many different kinds of love there are.
Joanie, you pick and choose what to follow and what not to follow from the Bible every single day. No one lives their life according to the Bible, because if they did, quite simply, they would be arrested. The Bible contains prescriptions considered so deeply immoral by modern society as to be unthinkable. So when you take up cause against something like homosexuality in the name of the Bible while ignoring most of its other prescriptions which are violated constantly, you’re picking and choosing what is right and what is wrong, you’re judging others based on your own interpretation of it, and quite simply you’re being a horrible, immoral human being.
And last time I checked, you people consider the act of homosexuality immoral. I don’t think there’s anything in the Bible about ASSOCIATING with homosexuals being immoral. That’s your argument, really? You think that a helping them plan a wedding or associating with them in some way is somehow a sin? Because that makes no sense whatsoever. You’re creating new sins, turning homosexuality into a sin by association, as if by acting like a civil human being to gay people makes one just as sinful and immoral as they are. That’s just idiotic. You just don’t seem to get that laws allowing discrimination like what you’re proposing are about as un-American as one can get. People like you make me very, very sad.
Joel most people fail to realize the connect the new testament has to the old. Jesus came to die on a cross for everyone to save us from our sins. He became the ultimate sacrifice so that we no longer have to make sacrifices to God, so that we no longer have to jump through hoops to please God, all we have to do is ask for forgivness and follow Christs example.
Joel there is something in Roman’s, I think it’s romans, about not allowing your brother to sin. My brother quoted it to me one time when I criticized him for destroying a tape that he felt was immoral rather then selling it. He for awhile had that cmc or whatever you call it and would not sell a welcome matt that said buddah on it becuase of this verse or perhasp something like it.

You said “How do they know, how do you know that you are not exchanging the truth for a lie.” How do you know that YOU are not exchanging the truth for a lie? What makes YOUR truth the ONLY truth. Different reasonable, religious, Christian people interpret the scriptures differently. You are welcome to believe in your truth, but please allow others to believe theirs. And I am not speaking about beliefs regarding homosexuality here. It can be about anything where there are reasonable differences in religious beliefs.
As far as the question of feeling sexuality at an earlier age than you experienced it, I hope you will see that this was your experience, but not everyone’s. Some people (gay or straight) are sexual at age 12 or so, others might not feel that until age 20. That’s the variation in people.
And that, for me, is just one example of the diversity among people as to how they are. Things like skin color, gender, intelligence, height, age of puberty, hair and eye color, sexual identity, disposition towards certain diseases, and much more are part of the genetic design, in some cases influenced or changed by later environmental and cultural forces. (Religion is a cultural and/or spiritual matter and not genetic.) I see the diversity of humans to be a blessing and not a curse.
which is why I struggle with which side to be on. it is easier to stick to what you know what the bible say’s rather than speculate what God meant. when it say’s in the bible that homosexuality is an abomination what does that mean for those who side with homosexuals? Would we suffer the same fate as them if we are wrong? Could this divide on homosexuality between denominations just be one more thing that will divide us when the lord returns or will our eye’s be opened to the truth and will everyone be able to accept that truth? If you were somehow able to experience some sort of vision in which it was revealed to you that your lifestyle was wrong would you still believe in God. Would you still put your faith in him and give up your old ways?
To whom it may concern it is okay for me to eat shrimp so say’s Act 10 9-23 read about peters vision. An angel appears to him and blesses the unclean animals we were forbidden to eat he is then invited to cornelius house however the key factor in this part of the bible is in the vision.
pay attention to act 10 11-15. A voice tells peter “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.”

I see this verse as saying that if someone helped someone Rob a liquor store, when they know that it is a sin to steal they are aiding that persons poor rational that justifies stealing. Which makes you a hypocrite even to that person if you turn around and say what we just did is wrong in the eye’s of the lord. That is how it would be a sin for a christian wedding planner to help same sex couples plan a wedding.
